The pigeon tandem from Emerveens that provides Dutch pigeon sport of a total new dimension already for decades now.  With their well-considered strain forming, with their total dedication and with their unsurpassed performances.  Because if a patent is given for many years of top successes, this patent is for sure in possession of Cornelis and Gerard Koopman.

JOS THONE

Jos Thone is in the opinion of many, the best pigeon racer of all distances.   He was influenced by successful fancier of his childhood and early teens, Jan Grondelaers of Opglabeek.  In fact it has been said that at the age of 12 the young Thone would stand admiring the pigeons of Grondelaers aware that what the latter fancier had achieved is what he, the observer, hoped to attain. He was also influenced by another successful fancier of his childhood and early teens Jan Grondelaers of Opglabeek. In fact it has been said that at the age of 12, the young Thone would stand admiring the pigeons of Grondelaers aware that what the latter fancier had achieved is what he, the observer, hoped to attain.

As the years passed, Jos was employed as the loft manager of the Thomas Peeters and Sons’ loft in As, where, as an excellent observer, he acquired an amount of knowledge and experience which would act as a base for the fulfilment of his sporting ambitions. In due course he married Gaby the daughter of Thomas Peeters. After their marriage Thone started to build his strain with pigeons from his father in law plus birds own strain.

He had produced some great achievements: 1st International Barcelona Yearling 1993; 1st International Barcelona Yearling 1994; 1st, 2nd Euregio (Semi International) Barcelona 1994; 1st Belgium Barcelona hen 1995; 2nd International Barcelona hen 1995; and 1st International Barcelona 1996, 20,191 pigeons. He has been overall champion in the International Gouden Duif competition twice; World champion (Versele Lage) four times, something no one has ever matched and has won the overall championship of La Colombophilie Belge six times, a competition everyone in Belgium can enter.

Jos Thone birds are one of the most valuable pigeon colonies in the world. They excel on distances from short to extremely long ones (marathon).  It is a true example of “Pigieon Huomo Universalis”.

4 x World Champion
5 x Golden Duif Winner
7 x 1st National Winner
2 x 1st International Winner

Will try the Jos Thone outcross racers only in this year’s North race.  All imports use in line breeding before.

MORRIS GORDON

An American strain founded and secured right here in America by the Master himself, Morris Gordon. The Morris Gordon pigeons have a perch in the world history books for being the premier strain at the distance. A strain which has won the All American Award on five different occasions. Rarely, if ever, will one find the likes of birds such as Josephine (foundation hen) a seventeen (17) time winner 500 miles, or her grand-father, Morris’ famous #85, who bred sixteen (16) individual 600 mile day birds. Over the years, one will find in the record books, countless champion pigeons at the distance with race records unequalled to this day.

Black is beautiful.  This line is known for its blacks and dark chequer combined with the Osman blood.  They are known to perform best in long distance and hard races.  It is suited well for the Philippine weather.

Mr. Eddie Noble of PHA, won the 2006 McArthur 1st with a Morris Gordon bloodline.

PIERRE & PATRICK PHILIPPENS

Pierre and Patrick Philippens from Voeren will forever remain associated in our pigeon world with the national race from the Mont Ventoux. Moreover they won the two first editions (from the three that were organized) of this, for them 732 km long orientation race. The first year (2002) their only basketted pigeon won with a no less than 67 minute lead from his nearest stalker. With a velocity of 1097 m/min. the “Mont Ventoux I” was the only one above the cape of the 1000 m/min. It was not the first win for this two year old clapper, because prior to this he had already won Pithiviers (385 km) and Nevers (460 km) in “Indépendante Luik”. He didn’t get it from a stranger because his father, the “Tramontane” represented Belgium as 1st Olympiad pigeon in Blackpool ’99. The “Mont Ventoux I” is also father of no less than three provincial winners from Orléans, La Souterraine and Perpignan.

The previous year father and son repeated their stunt from the Mont Ventoux, well with a different widower, who was naturally given the name “Mont Ventoux II”. Since the enrolment price was quite high, he was the only pigeon that Pierre and Patrick entered. Just like his predecessor, the “Mont Ventoux II” had a considerable lead, about 20 minutes on his nearest rival. “Mont Ventoux II” had already won three first prizes, namely from Brive, Jarnac and Béziers and managed to develop into a good breeder.

This line is very well known for having Barcelona Winner’s blood in their pigeons.  Their bloodiness are composed of Vrosch – Meijers (ETTERBAK), Gerard Van Tuyl and Gaby Vandenabeele and so on.

In our 2013 McArthur National Race, I placed 6th with a bird whose parents came from this breeder.  If you need real long distance birds, you can go over the pedigree of this breeder and will be convinced.

Some of my latest outstanding winners out of P & P Philippens outcross:

  1. PHA-12-2116315-BB-H “DEVI MOON” Philippens x Philippens, 2nd Gattaran. 11th Tuguegarao
  2.  PHA-12-2116326-BB-C “HEAVY IMPACT” Philippens x Philippens. 2nd Laoag, 2nd Burgos, 6th Vigan
  3. PHA-12-2116389-BB-H, “MUSTANG SALLY” Philippens x Philippens. 6th McArthur National Race.
  4.  PHA-12-2116341-BB-C “NANNA BANANA” Philippens x Philippens. 12th Gattaran

VAN RIET

With Stichelbaut-Gorin origin rising to the International top of pigeon racing. What is the best way to judge the quality of your pigeons? Let them race in the international one loft races. Every pigeon is treated the same way and ‘stimulating products’ aren’t involved. Only the fittest bird will survive. From all over the world pigeons are entered and put together in a common loft.

Diseases are spread easily, so indeed you need very tough birds. To examine the quality from your pigeons, this is the easiest way to judge them. Without the usual nonsense talk after a defeat, such as a lack of a good loft, race circumstances, wind profit or other disadvantages.
Outstanding performances in International Barcelona race is our biggest thrill and drive. Therefore we need very tough and consistent birds. The very tough Asia (Japan-China-Thailand) one loft races seemed for us the best and easiest way to judge the quality from our stock birds to determine their outrageous task.

The birds of Van Riet are mostly blacks and dark chequer.  I’m using these lines to cross with other blacks and dark chequer lines to produce a strain of blacks that can fly very well on hard races.

Some of my latest outstanding winners out of Van Riet outcross:

  1. PHA–12-2116347–BLACK–C “DARC KNIGHT“ Van Riet x Philippens. Clocked 5 out of 7 races, 4 prizes, 16th Gattaran.
  2.  PHA–12-2101064–PDCWF–H “CARMA SUPRA” Van den Broucke x Van Riet. Clocked 6 out of 7 races.

Many more of the Herbots racers were in the Olympiad selection of 2013! Also first provincial champion middle distance K.B.D.B. Brabant 2012… 1st Ace bird middle distance K.B.D.B. New imports will be flying the Filip Herbots outcross next year.

JANSSEN/HOFKENS

Janssen Line
The famous Janssen Brothers of Arendonk are among the extremely few fanciers who have made the name of their pigeons not only known around the world, but downright legendary. Take a look at the pedigrees of the top racers and breeders in any country and chances are very high you will find Janssen birds in there somewhere. Why this bloodline is such powerful breeding material is still open to debate, as is the question how the Janssen brothers have managed to keep their family so pure across decades. Fact is that a lot of champions owe their success to crossing some Janssen blood into their family line. Although Janssen pigeons are known for their exploits on the shorter distances, they have also done very well on middle and even long distances, where their combination of speed and stamina is able to shine.

Hofkens Line
The original bloodline of these Hofkens line were bred by Gus Hofkens from his foundation bird Driebander . Gus Hofkens said that all the children from his Driebander were good racers and breeders.  Driebander died in the hands of his illustrious owner Gus, when he was showing him to a visitor and tripped with him.

Verheyen bred and raced some of the best Hofkens anywhere, their names are now world known, and their children and grandchildren have been breeding fantastic racing pigeons for many lofts.  Mike Ganus has purchased more of the better pigeons and their children than anyone else.  He has owned at one time or another, some of the most famous that has ever left the famous loft.  Such famous pigeons as Kliene Merckx ’86, Top Man, Flash 190, Blue Chip, Young Merckx, De Jonge Merckx, Mr. Bourges, First Lady, and children of de Rocket 200, Old Merckx, Kliene Merckx’80, de 500, Old Pol, and de Fondman, were all in his loft at some point in their life.

Janssen-Hofkens line
The Hofkens line is considered one of the best line to cross with Janssen blood.  Both lines blends very well, improving the speed, stamina & intelligence.

JOS VAN DEN BROUCKE

Starting right after the war, Jos Van Den Broucke and the “Flying Dutchman”, Piet De Weerd from Breda, Holland started working together.  Piet was a famous man.  He was working for Martin Van Tuyn in Schoten.

The basic pigeons are in fact from coupling that Piet de Weerdt made.  He tested the pedigrees and qualities of imported pigeons. By running through the tricks that Piet de Weerdt had learned from Martin Van Tuyn, and by estimating on what he thought was vitality, he put stock pairs together out of which the greatest champions were born.

This is one of the top favorite imported bloodlines of local racing pigeon fanciers.  This line has mixed very well with local bloodlines.  There is no wonder why many fanciers are on the lookout for this line.  Long distance birds from this bloodline excels very well in our McArthur National Race.  In fact, every year my breeding of Van de Broucke’s pure line gets sold out.

Some of my outstanding winners of Jos Van Den Broucke outcross:

ISTVAN BARDOS OF HUNGARY

ISTVAN BARDOS is the Vice President of FCI.  During his visit here in the Philippines for the 50th Anniversary of Philippine Homing Pigeons Association, Inc. (PHA), he suggested that I send him 20 McArthur National Race bands so he could band them for me to compete in the National Race.  Unfortunately, when the birds arrived, they were almost 3 months old.  Fearing that they will not home to my loft anymore and might fly away, I decided to keep them for breeding.

Istvan Bardos pigeons house a colony of excellent bloodlines from the following lofts.

  1. REMI & CARLO GYSELBRECHT
  2. EROS CARBONI
  3. JAN & KATHY LOTTERMAN
  4. CATTRYSSE
  5. GERARD KOOPMAN
